Statement of Intent feedback and learner response

Comments for AQA: This is a clear statement of intent that offers a good concept that matches the music video / music magazine brief. It targets the specified audience appropriately and offers a range of creative ideas for media language use. Media language elements are a particular strength although perhaps lacking a focus on connotations in places which could push this into the top two levels. Narrative isn’t entirely clear.  Representation is weaker and keeps this from the top levels. Some theory is applied but not explained sufficiently and representation analysis doesn’t really move beyond gender stereotypes. Audience is addressed impressively with audience pleasures and engagement a particular strength. Digital convergence is touched on towards the end and some industry context is included. More on the industry side could push this towards the top levels. Print side of brief is mentioned briefly at the beginning but not expanded on which also keeps this in the lower levels. ...

Music video pre-production

 1) Music video treatment scene 1; outdoor different locations in London to highlight the London aesthetic and the country the music video is filmed. As it switches from one place to another throughout the streets of London at different day times. With a colourful screen background changing shapes and colours. Skating park location?  Scene2: Clear studio element white clear blank background with good lighting to contrast the colourful and London streets vibes and aesthetic to make the music video and artist stand out more and so fans can focus on the artist and appreciate them for these couple of clips.  Scene3: Aesthetic cosy bedroom giving the audience and girls specifically personal identity and relating to all of the bedrooms girls can have and maybe a desk  and mirror with make-up.  Scene 4: Lots of short clips and videos of buildings to contrast and change a bit with the theme so the artist is not the only one shown to entertain the audiences more. As they...

Preliminary exercise learner response

 1) Type up your teacher's feedback in full plus a summary of the comments you received from other students in the class. Really impressive preliminary exercise – going for the chorus was an excellent idea and the pace and number of shots is exactly what we want for a music video.  Editing is the real strength here – superb pace, matches the beat and several really well constructed moments.  Lip syncing is perfect in places but slightly off in others? Worth checking very carefully for full video. Do you need a separate studio performance element? Only comment on concept is to avoid it becoming too much like an advert for London tourism.  Needed brand identity of your artist in there – that was part of the brief for the preliminary exercise. Really good pace of editing  too many hair flips  2) Using a combination of your own reflection on the preliminary exercise and the feedback you were given, write three WWW bullet points and three EBI bullet points for y...

Preliminary exercise: Research and planning

1) State the song you have chosen for your preliminary exercise. Flowers ( Miley Cyrus)  2) Choose at least three music videos similar to your concept and watch a clip or more from each. Make bullet-point notes on everything you watch, commenting on camerawork, editing and mise-en-scene. Perfect- One Direction   ( camera angles and shots)  Feather-Sabrina Carpenter   ( Beginning of music video, camera movements as artist is walking and camera is following.  Bejeweled- Taylor Swift   ( Narrative towards the middle and end of the video as she gained confidence and independence as she also got a massive glow up and a juxtaposition of herself of her life before and after. )  3) Write a short music video treatment for your extract (this is basically a script for your music video). You can find an example of a treatment here. If you are making your real coursework then feel free to use the treatment from your summer project. Different shot of ...

Coursework: Ignite presentation learner response

 1) Type up your feedback in full including the ratings out of five for each of the categories.  Excellent clear introduction with added research ( views of original video) Timing a little out -a lot of text on the slides but not trying to read everything out which is good.  Representation and stereotypes slide is good worth expanding for statement of intent.  Narrative/ performance combination work but need to be a bit more specific in terms of narrative, camera shots and editing.  Mise-en-scene is stronger with some specific ideas e.g. look + feel.  Online element of magazine slide is good for digital convergence. social media too.  Interesting ideas for representation theory but timing delivery little off.  Industry interesting need to check Vevo element is it a record company shoe sponsorship and gender element worth exploring more. Q+A  Great Q on pop/ disco genre + how to create this  Combination of performance and narrative discus...

Coursework: Summer Project 2024

  1) Research: music videos Music Video 1: Narrative Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me This song we can apply Todorov's theory  as well as Propp's theory as the equilibrium is that the artist Taylor as the girl who met the guy which can be the hero and she can be the princess later on they liked each other and got close however the villain which is the new girl with brunette hair who took away the guy from her and separated both of them this is now the dis equilibrium however finally the resolution which was at the end which seems like to be an event like prom where they met again and finally got together as the guy left and ignored the new girl and focused on Taylor his original real love partner where they expose the papers to each other that they wrote but was not able to reveal. we can apply Binary oppositions as the two girls are very opposite and juxtaposed in terms of looks and characters.   Music Video 2:  Camerawork (shots, angles, movement)  ...
